The Ondo State government has expressed satisfaction with Sunshine Stars victory over Rivers United.

Awosanmi Promise’s goal secured a 1-0 win for the Owena Waves in their rescheduled game against Rivers United at the Ondo State sports complex in Akure on Sunday.

The State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, said the victory was as a result of the recent repositioning of the club.

He commended the entire team of Sunshine Stars for their dedication towards achieving the victory.

“Thank you to the wonderful people of Ondo State for your unwavering support. The joy on the faces of the fans at the sports complex after Sunshine Stars’ thrilling victory over Rivers United is a testament to the power of teamwork and determination,” he stated.

“Despite the initial setback of having our first goal disallowed, our faith and the unrelenting support from our dedicated supporters club, who kept beating the drums, kept our spirits high.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his guidance and encouragement, even when our position in the league seemed uncertain. Your support, sir, means the world to us. Thank you!

“I also want to express my appreciation to the tactical committee members, stakeholders at the soccer house, members of SWAN, ODSFA management, and the management of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as our technical crew and players, both home and abroad. Our collective efforts to reposition our team are yielding remarkable results, and our progress within just a week speaks volumes.

“To those who were affected by our recent changes, I thank you for your understanding. This victory is a testament to the power of teamwork and our shared vision.”
